The Unique, The Single, The Only One. He is Al-Wahid, the One and only God. He there is no alternative.
Name and Meaning
Al-Wahid (الواحد) translates to “The One.” This name signifies that Allah is uniquely One in His essence, attributes, and actions. There is no partner, equal, or rival to Him. His oneness is absolute and indivisible.
Root and Linguistic Significance
Derived from the Arabic root waw ha dal (و ح د), this root includes meanings such as:
- To be one or single
- To be unique and unmatched
- To unify or make one
This root emphasizes singularity and exclusiveness.
Allah’s Role as Al-Wahid
As Al-Wahid, Allah alone deserves worship. He is One without division in His lordship, sovereignty, and authority. All creation depends on Him, while He depends on none.
