The Quran Says About Mockery

“Do not insult one another, and do not call one another by offensive nicknames. How evil it is to be called sinful after faith. Whoever does not repent, then they are the wrongdoers.”
Quran | 49:11

This verse teaches respect, dignity, and accountability in how we treat one another. Mockery, sarcasm, and hurtful nicknames may seem small, but they damage hearts and weaken the unity of believers. Islam calls for honour in speech and purity of character, reminding us that faith is not only belief; it is behaviour.

Allah says, “O you who believe, let not one group ridicule another…” (Quran 49:11), a clear reminder that dignity is sacred in Islam. Calling others by offensive labels contradicts the spirit of faith. True believers guard their tongues, knowing that Allah is As-Sami (The All-Hearing) and Al-Adl (The Just). Repentance remains open, but those who persist in harming others through words wrong not just people; they wrong themselves.
