The Preventer

The Shielder, The Protector, The Preventer. He is Al-Mani. He there is no one to give what he’s withheld or to prevent what He gives.

Name and Meaning

Al-Mani (المانع) translates to “The Withholder” or “The Preventer.” This name signifies that Allah withholds or prevents what He wills according to His wisdom. Just as He gives and enriches, He also restrains and protects through withholding.

Derived from the Arabic root mim nun ayn (م ن ع), this root includes meanings such as:

  • To prevent or withhold

Allah’s Role as Al-Mani

وَاِذَاۤ اَرَادَ اللّٰہُ بِقَوۡمٍ سُوۡٓءًا فَلَا مَرَدَّ لَہٗ ۚ وَمَا لَہُمۡ مِّنۡ دُوۡنِہٖ مِنۡ وَّالٍ
“And when Allah intends for a people harm, there is no repelling it; and there is not for them besides Him any protector.”
