The Taker of Life

Name and Meaning

Al-Mumit (المميت) translates to “The Creator of Death” or “The Bringer of Death.” This name signifies that Allah is the One who causes death to all living beings. Just as He gives life, He alone determines when life ends according to His perfect wisdom.

Derived from the Arabic root mim waw ta (م و ت), this root includes meanings such as:

Allah’s Role as Al-Mumit

وَاللّٰہُ یُحۡیٖ وَیُمِیۡتُ ؕ وَاللّٰہُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُوۡنَ بَصِیۡرٌ
“And Allah gives life and causes death, and Allah is Seeing of what you do.”
