Al-Basir

The Seer of All

He sees all, even the smallest details, like a black ant on a black stone in the darkness of night. Nothing is hidden from His sight; He knows all in Heaven and Earth, perceiving both outward actions and inner realities.

Name and Meaning

Al-Basir (ٱلْبَصِيرُ) translates to “The All-Seeing” or “The All-Perceiving.” This name signifies that Allah sees everything, both the apparent and the hidden, without the need for physical eyes or instruments. His sight encompasses all things, and nothing escapes His vision.

Root and Linguistic Significance

Derived from the Arabic root ba-sad-ra (ب ص ر), this root includes meanings such as:

  • To see or notice
  • To understand or perceive
  • To be acutely aware

This root highlights Allah’s attribute of perfect and all-encompassing sight, emphasizing that His vision is not limited by time, space, or circumstance.

Allah’s Role as Al-Basir

As Al-Basir, Allah’s sight is absolute and unbounded. He sees every detail of His creation, from the grandest events to the smallest movements. His vision is not hindered by darkness or distance, and He perceives all things as they truly are. This attribute assures believers that Allah is fully aware of their actions, intentions, and circumstances.

Mention in the Quran

A clear reference is found in Surah Al-Hadid (57:4):

ؕ وَہُوَ مَعَکُمۡ اَیۡنَ مَا کُنۡتُمۡ ؕ وَاللّٰہُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُوۡنَ بَصِیۡرٌ
“He is with you wherever you are, and Allah sees whatever you do.”
Quran | 57:4

This verse emphasizes Allah’s omnipresence and His comprehensive awareness of all actions, reinforcing His attribute as the All-Seeing.

A Lesson for Believers

Reflecting on the name Al-Basir encourages believers to live with mindfulness and integrity, knowing that Allah observes all actions and intentions. It inspires individuals to act righteously, seek justice, and find comfort in Allah’s constant vigilance. Recognizing Allah as the All-Seeing fosters a sense of accountability and a commitment to sincerity in all aspects of life.
