Al-Waliy (الولي) translates to “The Protecting Friend”, “The Guardian”, or “The Patron.” This name signifies that Allah is the One who supports, protects, and befriends His believing servants. He takes care of their affairs, guides them, and brings them out of darkness into light.

Derived from the Arabic root waw lam ya (و ل ي), this root includes meanings such as:

Allah’s Role as Al-Waliy
