Al-Kabir

The Greatest

His greatness is beyond all comparison and beyond human understanding. He is unmatched in majesty, and the believer’s heart recognizes Him as the essence of perfection, with nothing equal to Him.

Name and Meaning

Al-Kabir (الكبير) translates to “The Most Great” or “The Supremely Great.” This name signifies that Allah is greater than everything in existence. His greatness is absolute, limitless, and beyond comparison. Nothing equals Him in power, authority, or majesty.

Root and Linguistic Significance

Derived from the Arabic root kaf ba ra (ك ب ر), this root includes meanings such as:

  • To be great, vast, or immense
  • To be elevated in rank or status
  • To possess majesty and supreme importance

This root emphasizes that Allah’s greatness is inherent, eternal, and unmatched.

Allah’s Role as Al-Kabir

A clear reference is found in Surah Al-Hajj (22:62):

ذٰلِکَ بِاَنَّ اللّٰہَ ہُوَ الۡحَقُّ وَاَنَّ مَا یَدۡعُوۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِہٖ ہُوَ الۡبَاطِلُ وَاَنَّ اللّٰہَ ہُوَ الۡعَلِیُّ الۡکَبِیۡرُ
“That is because Allah is the Truth, and what they call upon besides Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Most High, the Most Great.”
