The Afflicter

The Balancer, The Punisher, The Harmer. He is Adh-Dharr, The One who harms or benefits whoever He wills. He is the one whose wisdom may choose to use forceful corrections to discourage wrongful behavior.

Name and Meaning

Adh-Dharr (الضار) translates to “The Bringer of Harm.” This name signifies that Allah is the One who allows harm or difficulty to occur according to His wisdom. Nothing harmful happens except by His permission and decree.

Derived from the Arabic root dad ra ra (ض ر ر), this root includes meanings such as:
