The Quran Says About Twofold Reward

“So Allah gave them the reward of this world, as also an excellent reward of the next; and Allah loves those who do good.”

Quran | 3:148

This verse from Surah Aal-i-Imraan delivers a beautiful promise that sets Islam apart in how it views reward and success. Allah declares that He gave those who did good both the reward of this world and the excellent reward of the Hereafter, and then closes with one of the most beloved statements in the Quran: that Allah loves those who do good. It is a verse that shatters the false idea that a believer must choose between worldly success and spiritual fulfilment. For anyone wondering whether striving for excellence in this life is compatible with earning Allah’s pleasure, this verse makes it clear that the two are not only compatible but deeply connected.

The concept of doing good in Islam goes far beyond occasional acts of charity. It refers to a way of living where a person strives for excellence in everything they do, whether in worship, work, family life, or dealings with others. It means doing things with sincerity, care, and the awareness that Allah is always watching. The people described in this verse did not simply go through the motions of faith; they pursued goodness with such commitment that Allah rewarded them in both worlds. This is a powerful encouragement for every Muslim to raise their standard in everything they do, knowing that Allah does not only reward in the Hereafter but also blesses people in this life when they live with purpose and integrity. The closing words carry an especially personal and intimate tone: Allah does not just reward those who do good, He loves them. And there is no greater achievement for any human being than to earn the love of their Creator.

Allah says in Surah Ar-Rahmaan of the Quran, “Is the reward for good anything but good?” (Quran 55:60), affirming that those who live with excellence will always be met with excellence in return. When a believer commits to doing good in every area of their life, they are not only building a better world around them but also securing a place among those whom Allah Himself has declared His love for.
