The Quran Says About Balance and Goodness

“Seek, through what Allah has given you, the Home of the Hereafter, and do not forget your share of this world. Do good as Allah has done good to you, and do not seek corruption in the earth. Indeed, Allah does not love the corrupters.”

Quran | 28:77

This verse from Surah Al-Qasas is one of the most balanced and comprehensive teachings in the Quran on how a Muslim should approach life. Allah instructs the believer to use what they have been given to seek the Hereafter, while also not neglecting their rightful share of this world. It is a verse that rejects both extremes: becoming so consumed by worldly pursuits that the Hereafter is forgotten, or becoming so detached from the world that one neglects their responsibilities within it. For anyone looking for Quranic guidance on achieving balance between faith and daily life, this verse lays out the perfect framework.

The verse then goes further, commanding the believer to do good just as Allah has done good to them. This is a profound call to gratitude in action. Every blessing a person enjoys, whether health, wealth, family, or knowledge, is a gift from Allah, and the most fitting response is to extend that goodness to others. The believer is not simply told to worship in isolation but to use their blessings as a means of benefiting those around them. At the same time, Allah warns against seeking corruption in the earth, making it clear that there is a firm line between enjoying the world and exploiting it. Greed, injustice, and the pursuit of wealth at the expense of others are forms of corruption that Allah does not love. This verse teaches the believer to walk through life with a sense of purpose: enjoying what is lawful, giving generously, and always keeping the ultimate destination in mind.

Allah says in Surah Al-A’raaf of the Quran, “Say, who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good things of provision?” (Quran 7:32), affirming that enjoying the good things of this world is not only permitted but part of Allah’s design. As Al-Wahhab, Allah is the ultimate Bestower of gifts, and He loves to see His blessings used with gratitude, purpose, and goodness towards others.
