Allah Says About Divine Provision

“And enjoin your family to pray and be steadfast in it. We do not ask you for provision. We provide for you. The best outcome is for righteousness.”

Quran | 20:132

This verse from Surah Taa-Haa carries one of the most reassuring messages in the entire Quran. Allah commands the believer to enjoin their family to pray and to remain steadfast in it, and then removes one of the greatest anxieties people carry: the worry over provision. Allah declares that He does not ask us for sustenance; rather, it is He who provides for us. The verse ends by affirming that the best outcome belongs to those who are mindful of Allah. For anyone struggling with the balance between worship and worldly concerns, this verse offers a life-changing perspective on where true security comes from.

Many people fall into the trap of believing that their time spent in worship takes away from their ability to earn and provide. This verse directly addresses that misconception. Allah is telling us that prayer is not a burden that competes with our livelihood, but a source of blessing that enhances it. When a person prioritises their relationship with Allah, He takes care of what they need. This does not mean that effort and hard work are unnecessary, but it shifts the believer’s mindset from one of anxiety to one of trust. The command to enjoin one’s family in prayer also highlights the importance of building a household rooted in worship, where children grow up seeing salah as a central part of daily life rather than an afterthought. And the closing words, that the best outcome is for those with righteousness, reassure the believer that their commitment to Allah will never lead to loss, only to a better end in this life and the next.

Allah says in Surah At-Talaaq of the Quran, “And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect” (Quran 65:2-3), confirming that those who remain conscious of Allah will always find their needs taken care of. As Ar-Razzaq, Allah is the ultimate Provider whose sustenance reaches every living being without fail. When a believer places prayer at the centre of their life and trusts Allah with their provision, they discover a peace that no amount of wealth alone could ever bring.
