Allah Says About Balance in Creation
وَمِنۡ کُلِّ شَیۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَا زَوۡجَیۡنِ لَعَلَّکُمۡ تَذَکَّرُوۡنَ ﴿۴۹﴾
“And of everything We created pairs, so that you may reflect.”
This verse from Surah Adh-Dhaariyat draws attention to one of the most remarkable signs of Allah’s wisdom in creation: that everything has been made in pairs. From male and female, to night and day, light and darkness, heaven and earth, the entire universe is built upon a system of balance and complementary opposites. Allah ends this verse by stating that the purpose behind this design is so that people may reflect, making it an open invitation to look at the world with deeper awareness. For anyone exploring the signs of Allah in nature and creation, this verse offers a profound starting point for understanding the divine order that governs everything around us.
The concept of pairs extends far beyond what is immediately visible. Science continues to discover duality in the natural world, from positive and negative charges in atoms to the pairing of chromosomes in living organisms. Yet long before these discoveries, the Quran already pointed to this reality as evidence of a purposeful Creator. The fact that nothing in creation exists in isolation, but always alongside its counterpart, reveals a design of perfect harmony that could not have come about by chance. This verse challenges the thoughtful mind to move beyond surface-level observation and recognise that every pair in existence points back to the One who is singular and without partner. It is a call to use our intellect, to notice the patterns Allah has placed around us, and to allow that reflection to strengthen our certainty in His existence and power.
Allah says in Surah Yaseen of the Quran, “Glory be to Him who created all pairs, from what the earth produces, and from themselves, and from that which they do not know” (Quran 36:36), expanding the scope of this truth to include even what remains beyond human knowledge. As Al-Khaliq, Allah is the Creator who brought every pair into being with perfect purpose, and as Al-Hakim, His wisdom is embedded in every detail of His creation. When a believer reflects on the pairs around them, they see not randomness but the unmistakable hand of Allah shaping everything with precision and meaning.
