The Prophet Said About Brotherhood Among Muslims

“Do not cut ties with one another, do not turn your backs on one another, do not hate one another, and do not envy one another. Be brothers as Allah has commanded you.”
The Prophet | Muslim (2563)

The Prophet (pbuh) outlined in this hadith the key diseases that destroy unity among Muslims. Envy, hatred, turning away, and cutting ties all begin in the heart before they surface in behaviour, and together they tear apart the bonds of brotherhood that Islam so carefully builds. This teaching calls every believer to guard their heart and actively maintain love and connection with their fellow Muslims.

Allah reminds us in the Quran, “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided” (Quran 3:103), commanding the believers to never allow division to weaken them. As Al-Wadud, Allah is the source of all genuine love, and as As-Salam, He is the ultimate source of peace. When believers nurture brotherhood for His sake, they reflect these beautiful Names in their daily lives and earn closeness to the One who placed mercy between their hearts.
